Gabrielle sits perched on the windowsill, looking out and the grounds of Hogwarts.
With her camera around her neck, Gabi begins taking pictures.
She sighs, looking down at the black object in her hand. Her only real companion.
So far, the room is empty, and there is no one for Gabi to speak with.

The flash of the camera stung his eyes as he sat hunched in the corner, staring silently at the girl at the window. The dark shadows cast by the softly glowing coals in the grate danced across his ivory face; his eyes glimmered in the light of the dying fire. He continued to observe his target with those eyes, half hidden by heavy lids, and by his lank brown bangs. She looked like an interesting one, quite the shutterbug indeed. In spite of this, he rejected the notion of attempting to befriend her; he wasn't very photogenic. Pictures had a habit of inhancing his vampiric complexion; something that bothered him and, to a much larger extent, bothered everyone else. Instead, he pressed himself further into his corner, wishing he had brought his homework or something. He didn't dare move to get it now; it might draw attention to him.

Losing interest in taking her pictures, Gabrielle stood.
There wasn't much she could take pictures of from this window; she had done it all before. Alas, it was too dark to leave the tower, and unlike her brother, Gabrielle was not fond of attracting trouble.
She decided that it'd be a good idea to put the camera away for tonight, and then return to her perch at the window. Maybe someone would show.
She passed the dwindling fire, catching a glimpse of what she thought was movement. She stopped, glued to her spot.

He watched her pass, eyes locked on her like a targeting system. He followed every movement, the swing of her arms, the spring in her step. He watched the camera clutched in her hands, the foul thing; ready to shut his eyes at a moment's notice if the damned flash bulb fired.
Suddenly, he froze, motionless as if he had just been petrified. Even his breathing seemed to cease. He'd been noticed; it sent cold shivers down his spine. All he wanted now was to melt into the wall behind him and ne'r return. But alas, these powers, he did not have. So all he did was remain stone stiff in the hopes she would pass the sight off as a mere Will 'o the Wisp lost on its way to the swamps.

Gabrielle thought of shrugging the thought off. Clearly, if there had been some movement, it would have moved again.
She began to move again. But, what if, it just stopped moving?
She set her camera down on a table, out of reach. She didn't need her camera to investigate. No, she was brave enough to look. Besides, what kind of thing could harm her in the Ravenclaw tower? It was for Ravenclaws only.
"'Ello?" She called out, inching towards the corner.

Being so accustomed to the absolute silence of the common room, the sound of her voice grated against his eardrums. Inwardly, he shuddered; outwardly, he didn't move an inch. He hadn't even blinked for the past five minutes. His wide, crystalline eyes glared up at the intruder, glittering softly, ever softly; the only light on his person.
At least she had gotten rid of the camera; the first line of attack was gone. Next, her wand... He didn't see it on her, though that meant nothing; probably in a back pocket, ready to whip out in a heartbeat. Against the norm, he decided to hope for the best and assume it was not. In fact, she didn't seem to be armed in any way. Now, he thought, about the worst thing she could do to him at this point was poke him. He didn't like the sound of that either.
He didn't want to give the air that he was unfriendly, only that he wished to be left alone. Perhaps now she would go on her way and not feel the need to attack him. After all, he'd done nothing wrong. He hadn't hurt her, he hadn't spoken to her, and until now he hadn't even looked at her. Then, he began to wonder, was it a crime for taking up space if you were weird? Immediately he brushed these childish thoughts aside.
Some people, he supposed, were just naturally curious, and he a no-doubt interesting curio.
All he did was watch her like an indecisive squirrel in the middle of the highway, contemplating the approaching car and wondering whether to flee, or to stare it down until the end.

Gabrielle stood in silence for a bit, waiting for a reply. She knew now, no doubt about it, that someone was in that particular area. She could feel their gaze boring into her.
She cocked her head to the side like she watched her cat do so many times before. She was curious. Normally, when she tried to talk to someone, they caught her friendlyness and began talking back. This was new to Gabrielle. But it wasn't exactly weird. Some people were just shy, and that Gabrielle could sympathize with. She, too, could be shy.
She sat down on the nearest chair, trying to show that she wasn't a threat, but also that she wasn't going to leave right this second. Honestly, she thought, I don't know why this person is so intent on hiding from me. She looked off in their direction, daring them to come out and into view. At this point, she was completely absorbed in the person she had never met before, the sleep that she had felt slowly ebbing away.

He made no move to respond, just simply sat there, glaring at her with cold black eyes. His hopes rose as she turned to leave, but fell just as fast as she took a seat nearby.
For several minutes, he watched her in the chair. She stared at him, beckoning with her gaze. He stared back, just as if to say "Yeah? What of it?" Since his presence wasn't exactly unknown anymore, he began to breathe again, and he blinked several times, though he stayed as tense as ever. He glanced at the burning embers in the fireplace, then back at her. After about fifteen more minutes, he moved, on his feet in an instant, striding to the far side of the room. His walking was so smooth, as if he were gliding across the floor on ice. He took his place at the table about thirty feet away, still not taking his eyes off her. He was still now; a stone statue once more.

Gabrielle followed him with her eyes as he, she finally figured out, got up and glided across the room in a couple swift movements.
Odd, she thought.
For some reason, she was having a stare off, almost as if they were waiting to see who would give up first. Feeling challegened, Gabrielle settled into her seat further, simply stating that she'd sit there for the rest of the night if that's what it took. She still didn't understand why this boy was so keen on keeping quiet. All Gabrielle wanted to do was get to know him, maybe even befriend him. He almost reminded herself of, well, herself. If she was a lot more quiet, that is.

A stare off.
He almost laughed, but he restrained himself. That's all this was, a staring contest. Every day was one for him. He was leaning one elbow on the table, one on his knee, fingers interlocked tightly. His legs were neatly crossed at the ankle. Dark brown tresses framed his face, slightly ruffled like he'd just rolled out of bed. His simple robes hung loosely on his scrawny shoulders, a blue striped tie was secured tightly round his neck. Beneath this, he wore a neat white shirt, and black dress slacks. His shoes were of black leather, but dull, not shined to a glow as most students kept their footwear. He looked perfectly normal; but there was something about his eyes that threw that normality assumption off.
All it seemed he knew how to do was stare. It unnerved most people he knew. Probably why he had no friends.

Gabrielle just kept on staring, suddenly feeling like she couldn't do anything but this. His eyes.
Everything about him was normal. They wore the same regulation Ravenclaw outfit, pretty much, despite their own touches. But his eyes, oh... his eyes. Something about those two eyes staring back at her had her glued to her chair.
Again, Gabrielle cocked her head to the side, a habit she slowly beginning to adopt. It was the natural curiousity stance for her. On other occasions, she would simply dismiss a staring contest. They were a waste of time. She opened her mouth to speak, but felt robbed of words.
What, she thought, is going on here?
She tried to send messages with her eyes, but she knew that was a loss. She couldn't penatrate anyone's thoughts, no matter how hard she tried or wished she could. But it was the only thing she could do, seeing as her mouth seemed dry. She leaned forward in her chair, over the arm, and rested her chin in the palms of her hands.
C'mon, she sighed.

A smile twitched at the corners of his lips; an eyebrow raised with intrigue. The change in her gaze had caught his interest. He was a statue no more, he'd begun to twiddle his thumbs, one of his feet tapping soundlessly on the floor. His eyes were wider now, the listless stare was gone. He'd begun to watch her with more intent.
What? His eyes seemed to say. Am I a bother? They continued to glitter, now in a strange pinkish hue, light from the fire and the moon intermixing within his glare.

Is he amused?
Gabrielle fought back a smile trying to surface at her lips. She pushed them together, almost in a prissy way, and then realized how stupid she must look. Instead, she let a small, sly smile take the form on her lips.
She could read his eyes almost clearly, for once.
No bother, she raised an eyebrow of her own.
She moved one hand to pull on the ends of her hair. How much time had passed since she saw this boy, she did not know. All she knew was that she was, oddly, having fun with this. Probably one of the only times she'd ever have fun with silence. Gabrielle usually wasn't one for silence, but right now... it was different.
She made her eyes wide, as if suggesting something, but she really didn't know what she was suggesting.

No bother? The smile ebbed away. Normally, most people would've packed up and left long ago after seeing him. Why not this girl? He found it odd... And even more enjoyable. Never had he this much time to study a single person.
Her eyes were not like the others. They had personality, not like everyone else he had incountered, who had the same boring eyes, not unlike cattle in a field. That's what everyone looked like to him anyway. He liked them. They were fun to watch change.
They'd changed again; a suggestive feel sinking in from her gaze. He adopted a confused expression, cocking his head to the left ever so slightly in immitation, almost mockery. Still, it was fun toying with her. What would she do next?
Would she speak? He pondered. Because I certainly won't. If she wants a chat, she had to start one.

Gabrielle almost giggled when he tilted his head to the left. It was amazing that he adapted that much from her. It was as if they almost had their own silent conversation going on between them.
She wondered what to do next. Her mouth seemed less dry, but she didn't know what to say. And then, as if she couldn't hold back her thoughts, she blurted out.
"You're different."
It wasn't a question. It was a statement. He honestly was different. But not in the bad way. And she knew her voice indicated that she wasn't calling him weird. She was simply stating a fact that they both knew, or so she hoped they both knew...

The smile returned; a wider smiled than ever before. He seemed to take it as a grand compliment. He said nothing, but he didn't have to.
Why thank you, I'm glad you noticed. His eyes seemed to say. He looked happy for the first time since he'd been noticed. The twiddling thumbs slowed, and finally stopped, resting against eachother in a steeple. After a few moment's continued staring, he then uncrossed his ankles and stood, stepping lightly across the room again and taking up a cushy seat right across from her. He swung his legs listlessly over one of the chair's arms, leaning with his elbow on the other; looking quite comfortable now.
He merely watched her with wide dark eyes, but said nothing. He hadn't made one sound since she'd first laid eyes on him.

She grinned as he sat before her. This was different, way different, from any other conversation she had ever had. Usually, by now, she'd get bored with some people's contineous chatter. But now, she was just starting to get interested in it.
He has a nice smile, she thought while looking at him. But that's not the only thing she noticed about him.
"You're obviously not a first year," She looked him up and down, her eyes resting on his face. "Do you always hide in dark corners?"
She waited for a response, wondering if all she'd get was silence again. But it wasn't the bad kind of silence. No, it was the interesting kind, where she tried to figure out his every thought from his gestures and his eyes.

Her wonderings were correct. He said nothing, only nodded. Corners were his friend. His only friend. But maybe not for long. And, as if in answer to her first comment, he raised five fingers, but not in the traditional open-handed gesture, but both hands, two fingers on one, three on the other. When he lowered his hands, he glanced over at the staircase to the boy's dormitory, as if in responce to a non-existant noise. He smiled again and turned back to her, as if nothing had happened. He suddenly pointed at her, an otherwise totally pointless gesture, but it seemed to be returning the question of "What year are you?"

She laughed. He was funny.
"I'm a fourth year, myself." She shrugged.
She had another thought hit her. She wondered what his voice would sound like. If it was low like a lot of boys' at his age, or something that matched his features. Not that either answer would be disappointing, of course.
Her eyes focused on the door as she sensed her brother coming in. He walked past them, only throwing her a nod, and she sighed.
"My brother," She shrugged again, a gesture she seemed to like lately. "You know him?"
Not caring if he knew him or not, she just wanted to make conversation. She didn't want to lose this boy's interest, even if it meant she had to ask a couple of useless questions in the process.

He slowly shook his head, confused.
You have a brother? Was the implied look. He then turned to stare back at the staircase again, then quickly looked back at her. He shrugged, as if he seemed interested in meeting this brother of her's.
He took his legs down off the arms of his chair, sitting more normally and staring closely at her. A fourth year... Strange. He wasn't sure if she looked older or younger, but she didn't really look fourteen.

She realized he was studying her, and she also realized that her brother really wasn't all that interesting. All he ever did was sit in dark places and write strange things he ended up showing her later.
She slightly tipped her head to the side and let him look for a little while longer before speaking again.
"What is it?" She didn't ask it in a pushy way. No, she was just simply curious as to why she was so interesting to him. He was interesting to her. Why was she so interesting?

His eyes flitted back to the staircase, then to her, and shook his head. It was nothing, nothing at all, he thought. Then, in a flash of feathers, a small owl shot from the staircase and landed on his head. He smiled a little, the owl twittered a little and nestled into his scruffy hair. Sighing, he reached up, stroking the tiny bird behind the head with his thumb. Though he seemed fine now that the owl had come, he didn't look to content with the staircase.

She nearly jumped as the little feather ball flew down past her. It scared the life out of her, but then she realized it was, and looked at it oddly while it nestled into his pretty hair.
Focusing back on his face, she noticed that he kept throwing glances at the stairs.
"Waiting for someone?" She asked.
Then another question hit her.
"I must be putting you to sleep, eh?" Despite herself, Gabrielle couldn't help the grin come to her face. "I'm sure there's a comfy bed that you're just waiting for."
